Since I'm moving I need to sell my M5. I have it priced a tad high, but am expecting offers that will be fair ($8k-$9k would make sense.)
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
However, I keep getting offers of $4k or $5k with some bullshit excuse saying the car needs $4k worth of work to "run well." Funny, it runs well enough for me to drive it 200-400 miles at a stretch, regularly take kids to school and schlep all over town.
Also, this popped up. For people with more money than....

How reliable has your M5 been as a daily? I am thinking of picking one up after driving a friends 2000. I see a lot of them in the 140-160k range so I figure with regular maintenance it can't be the worst thing in the world.

"call for price"

If you have to ask, you can't afford it. Probably in the $4M range (my guess.)

You should pick up some leather conditioning wipes and go over the seats inside - from the pictures they do look a bit grimy. Also, $4k-$5k offers are ridiculous. I've seen M5s with way more miles going for $13k and $15k just because it's an M5.

Craigslist sucks - I remember trying to sell my '04 GSX-R600 in 2009 for $4000, and getting e-mails that had nothing but a price - $2200, $2500. People are fucking nuts lol.

Man I really would love to have your M5, don't have enough cash to buy it outright right now though. I'd have to get some baby loan with a shitty interest rate.

as long as the firing systems arent loaded and the guns are not functioning its just like a rare car -

That's kind of how I purchased the car.

I'd snatch your M5 up in a second if I had the ability and the funds to do so. 10k is a NP for one that nice with that mileage. I see most going for around 14k just because it's an E39.

I'd buy it if I had $8-9K lying around.
As an aside, if you photograph the car with crap lying around inside it, this affects perception. I know I wouldn't offer that much on a car that has a plastic bucket in the back floorboards.
Also, you don't have the original BMW wheels from the E39 (BMW Style 65 wheels)? That will affect perceived value.

the yikes was in reference to the price estimate. I am all for government liquidation of its assets as opposed to scrapping them.

Doing a detail on the interior and taking photos of it with all of your personal belongings out of the car can help a whole bunch. That is one mistake sellers constantly make. Spend a day and wipe down all the leather with a conditioner and clean all of the dirt out of the inside and you might get better offers.
I do feel you on the lowball offers though, I went through that with my sisters truck last year. I priced it reasonably high and stated I was willing to negotiate and I got a whole bunch of $7,000 offers when I would have took $9,500. Even with all of the faults clearly written out and a very descriptive listing answering most potential questions I'd get emails from people that lack reading comprehension. Then there are the dirtbags who find a "similar" listing and try to use that as a lowball offer, a 4 cylinder Tacoma 4wd is not the same truck as the full TRD kitted out 4wd truck. . . Some people are just crap, but a clean car in the pictures is easier to sell.

Yeah, I prefer to own things outright.
